Githurai 45 area chief Francis Ndukai has lauded residents for embracing the Nyumba Kumi initiative which he says has led to reduction in crime.
Speaking to the public at Mwihoko shopping centre in Githurai 45 on Tuesday, the chief said that the crime rate has gone down drastically.
He said that since Nyumba Kumi was introduced the level of crime has gone down in the area.
Ndukai said that residents have embraced the initiative and are sharing information with the police.
“We are happy that Githurai residents have seen the need of sharing information with the police and we want to encourage them to continue doing so,” he said.
The Chief said that the area will be safer if residents continue to work with law enforcers.
The Githurai Chief appealed to residents to remain vigilant.
He said that despite crime going down there is need for residents to be on the lookout and report crime.
Chief Ndukai added that the government has put in place necessary measures that will guarantee safety of locals.
He said that the local administration has received more security officers who will be conducting patrols in the area.
Ndukai said that surveillance will be conducted on 24 hour basis and asked the locals to cooperate with the police.
