Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has urged the national government to speed up the construction of a new and modern, equipped Referral hospital in Uasin Gishu that will help in reducing congestion at Moi Teaching and Refferal Hospital.
Speaking during the opening of 110 bed capacity children hospital at the Moi Teaching and Referral hospital, Chemno said that delay in its construction has exerted more pressure on the hospital, which is limited to a specific number of patients.
"Moi Teaching and Referral attends to more than 4,000 patients instead of the required number of 2,000 in which half of them are bed ridden causing two patients to share a bed, but with the construction of the new referral hospital, it will help fully in decongesting the hospital,” Chemno said.
He further added that the Uasin Gishu County government has hired 360 nurses to be distributed to the six level four hospitals and 100 dispensaries in the county.
He urged the national government to speed its programme of constructing at least two hospitals in every country, since this will help in decongesting the existing hospitals and also improve the service delivery.
