Naivasha Kikuyu council of elders wants the county and the national government to create job opportunities for youths in the sub county to curb cases of alcohol and drug abuse
Speaking to journalists at Karati village in Naivasha Town on Wednesday, the elder’s chairman Daniel Kigochi blamed unemployment to rise in alcohol and drug abuse within Naivasha.
The elder noted that alcohol and drug abuse is high in Naivasha and adjacent towns.
He asserted that many young people are being lured into drug abuse and trafficking.
“Relevant government agencies should move with speed and address the issue of alcohol abuse mostly among our teenagers,” he said.
The Naivasha Kikuyu council of elders also asked the government to deal with manufacturers of illegal alcohol.
They said that the future of many young people in the sub-county is blink if they are not rescued from alcohol and drug abuse.
Kigochi, however, supported the government move to crackdown on illicit brews saying that the council supports the steps taken by the government towards taming illicit brews in the area.
“As elders we will walk with and also support the government in the fight against brews,” he said.
He asked councils of elders from other communities within the sub-county to join hands with the government and fight challenges facing the society.
