Athi River Deputy County Commissioner Mr Kodeck Makori has called on the Machakos County government to evict a road contractor from the Mavoko playing ground.
Speaking to this writer in his office on Friday, Makori said the contractor, who had fenced part of the ground which now has his construction equipment, had stayed on the land for a long time even though he had completed road construction in the area two years ago.
"I wonder what the contractor is still doing on the playing ground two years after he completed the roads which had made the county government to temporarily give him the land to hold his equipment," said Makori.
Makori said the land was irregularly and wrongfully given to the contractor because there are several open grounds along Athi River roads where he could have operated from.
He said the contractor's presence on the playing ground had limited youth and women who use it for training on various sporting activities.
The commissioner said the contractor should not have fenced the playing ground using the iron sheets which have never been removed since the project ended.
Makori said the county government should act fast so that the contractor moves to pave way for the playing ground usage. He noted that the construction firm is a private entity while the land on which its equipment lie is for public utility.
