Mavoko Assistant County Commissioner David Tegutwa has raised concern over increase in abortion cases among girls in the area.
Speaking to hivisasa.com in his office on Tuesday, Tegutwa said he had received many reports from a number of chiefs and their assistants that abortion had become common in the division.
"I have received several reports from my chiefs and their assistants on abortion cases within this division. We cannot keep quiet about it," said Tegutwa.
Tegutwa said the act was rampant in Sofia, Jua Kali, Kanaani and Kisumu Ndogo slums all within his area of jurisdiction.
He said majority of the girls who conducted abortion sought assistance from herbalists among other non professional medical practitioners from the region.
He cautioned those involved to stop it arguing it is risky and exposes the girls to great danger.
He called on area residents, members of the community policing and nyumba kumi initiative in the region to be on the lookout and report any incidence of abortion in the division.
He said those found colluding or assisting the girls to abort would be apprehended and arraigned before court.
