The Chancellor of University of Eldoret (UoE),  Prof Judith Bahemuka has appealed to the government for support in imparting agribusiness skills on students.

Bahemuka wants both governments to support the institution in equipping the youth with skills to venture into agriculture as a source of employment instead of depending on white collar jobs.

Speaking during the opening ceremony of the UoE Trade Fair on Thursday, Bahimuka noted that majority of the youth are either unemployed or underemployed saying that 92 percent of them lack the capability to venture into agriculture and self employment.

She says the only remedy to youth unemployment is to equip them with knowledge in agriculture and entrepreneurship.

"I urge the youth to venture into agribusiness and practice agriculture as a business since it only needs a little capital to start. I appeal to the Uasin Gishu County government under the leadership of governor Mandago to support us financially as we endeavour to reduce unemployment among the youth," she said.

She urged farmers to use modern farming technologies for better yields saying with the use of modern technology, it was possible to earn a living solely from agriculture.
