Kenya Farmers Association chairman in Uasin Gishu Mr Kipkorir Arap Menjo has called on the national government to open National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) doors for farmers to store their produce before El Nino rains.
Speaking on Saturday after meeting farmers from the county, Menjo said although the government has asked farmers to harvest their crops before El Nino rains begin, nothing has been done as to ensure farmers store their crops safely.
"I urge the national government through the Ministry of Agriculture to open NCPB doors for farmers to start presenting their produce before the onset of the El Nino rains to avert food insecurity," Menjo said.
He urged the government to support farmers in the region by providing them with driers at affordable rates for them to dry their crops.
"I urge the national government to act with speed and annouce the prices that they could be buying maize and wheat from farmers before middlemen start buying from farmers at a throw away prices, making them run at a losses," he added
