The national and county governments are committed in the provision of affordable and quality sanitation to all Kenyans, Nakuru County Director of Public Health and Sanitation Dr Joseph Lenai has said.
Lenai who spoke on Thursday at Bondeni Primary School in Nakuru town during this year's Global Handing Washing Day said both levels of governments have rolled out strategies to enhance sanitation.
“There has been implementation of the national and counties environmental sanitation and hygiene policies to transform the lives of residents,” said Lenai.
He also said both governments have facilitated vibrant forums for stakeholders in the environmental sanitation where issues pertaining to sanitation and hygiene are addressed.
He added that the national government has put in place measures to support the national health policy that emphasizes on preventive health care.
Lenai advised Nakuru residents to embrace a culture of washing hands with soap to avoid diseases arising from poor hand washing practices.
“Hand washing with soap is critical in preventing and controlling communicable diseases such as diarrhoea, typhoid and cholera,” said Lenai.
He, however, admitted that the both governments are faced with financial constraints to achieve hygienic standards in all counties.
