Nyamira Govenor John Nyangarama has blamed the media for persistent negative reports in the alleged corruption in the county government.

The county has been under immense scrutiny following corruption reports within the county assembly and the executive that led to temporal suspension of six county executives.

Speaking on Tuesday at the Royal Media owned Egesa FM, Mr Nyagarama blamed the media for ‘unfair and biased’ reports and urged media houses to be objective and credible in their reporting.

He said most reports pertaining corruption were exaggerated terming the recent Sh7 million gate scandal and an example of several unconfirmed negative reports.

“Sometimes my leadership and the county government are unfairly covered by the media. People come and do stories without even giving the accused the ear. I don’t think that is balanced or objective coverage. They even went ahead to quote Sh7 million as the amount paid to the contractor over a gate not letting us know that he contractor was also to do refurbishment of the county hospital,” he said.

He said his government was keen on working with locals to fight corruption and accused some Journalists of making the county look to be toleration corruption.

“In my lifetime, I have never tolerated corruption and it’s these journalists who write negative things to be relevant. Corruption is illegal and it’s a mandate of not only the governor but all residents to fight the vice,” he added.

Governor Nyagarama has been recently under immense criticism to quit office with area Senator Okong’o Mong’are leading the opposition team.
