The ODM leadership in the county assembly of Nyamira has urged Governor John Nyagarama to change his leadership style by reducing perceived ‘distance’ from the people.
This comes after reports emerged that the Nyamira County boss was booed by a section of residents at Rigoma grounds on Friday during the World Food Day celebrations.
Speaking at his Manga ward during a meeting with class eight candidates for 2015 KCPE and their parents, majority whip Mr Peter Mororo said the governor had reverted into a leadership style of ‘working with proxies’ without getting touch with reality on the ground.
“The governor is a member of my party and I have authority as whip to correct him when things aren’t right. He has distanced himself from electorates and his growing unpopularity was evident on Friday. As a party, we have to take responsibility and urge him to inspect projects purportedly launched by his administration in the county,” he said.
According to Mr Maroro, the governor had reverted to depending on ‘hearsay’ from his proxies on maters development, making even contractors do a shoddy job.
“There are so many projects launched among then roads but the governor rarely visits them to see their progress. Workers have taken advantage to sleep on the job, giving our party a bad reputation. Time has come for him to face the reality and change his approach on matters development,” he added.
Maroro said the record of Nyagarama might jeopardise chances for his sponsor party (ODM) in winning presidential elections in 2017.
“If he performs poorly, the ODM party will have to explain to the electorates. We will own the poor record. That is why we want him to work towards fulfilling our national manifesto,” he said.
