Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua on Tuesday joined Nakuru residents in celebrating Mashujaa Day at Afraha Stadium.

Speaking at the event, Mbugua said Mashujaa Day was a special day for Kenyans to gather and celebrate the lives and sacrifices that were made by our forefathers for people to be free today.

"These gracious men and women gave their all to fight a repressive rule looking back over the years, we are deeply proud of their struggle because it was just, noble and necessary in putting an end to the humiliating bondage forced upon us in our own motherland," he said.

He asked Kenyans never to forget that this country's independence was won in struggle, a resolute and inspired struggle carried on from day to day, a struggle, in which he said was faced with so much suffering and pain.

Governor Mbugua added that the events that took place between 1952 and 1963 are illustrious dates that will be forever engraved in Kenyans’ hearts. "There are dates whose meaning must be proudly passed from one generation to the next," he said.
