Leaders from the Gusii community have been challenged to lead the community into the Kenya Social Congress (KSC) Party, to position it as a community's bargaining political vehicle a head of the 2017 general elections.
The Party's National treasurer Nelson Onduko warned Gusii community members and their leaders against shunning the party, which was founded by the late George Anyona, on whose ticket he contested the presidency in the first multi-party democracy in 1992 general elections against the retired President Daniel Arap Moi.
Speaking to the press in Kisii town after witnessing the birth and launch of The Gusii Chronicle, a monthly Newspaper for the region and its environs, Onyancha regretted that after building the party to form a political home for the community, many area leaders with enormous resources and leadership credentials by-passed the party, only to strengthen political parties from other regions.
Denying that having Gusii leaders flock KSC will reflect it as a tribal political outfit for the Gusii community, Onduko said even the other political parties where Gusii leaders sought refuge were once region-based before becoming giant political parties to attract members from across the country.
"I am clarifying that KSC will not become a tribal political basket for the Gusii community simply because Kisii leaders patronize it in terms of leadership positions and resources. It is ironical for our sons and daughters to invest heavily in political parties from other regions, instead of channeling such resources to the homegrown party," stated Onyancha.
He disclosed that the party will soon kick off membership recruitment drive in the region, and conduct its party elections to prepare the party for the 2017 general elections.
