Residents of Githunguri, in Kiambu County were on Thursday treated to a free-for-all drama when they witnessed irate handcart operators bathe their colleague.

The operators were complaining that their colleague was emitting a stench which they could no longer bear.

The man, commonly known as Mbugua together with three others attracted the wrath of their colleagues who operate in the town centre due their permanently dirty attire which was never changed even when they were not performing their daily jobs.

Their bodies were allegedly infested with lice that roamed on their clothes and hair in broad daylight to the chagrin of their workmates

Peterson Mbugua, the team leader said that because of Mbugua’s stench, the workmates strategised on how they were going to forcefully bathe him.

Drama began when Mbugua reported to the workstation and found his counterparts waiting for him where his handcart was parked. He was ordered to get onto it and they pulled it to the market where they bought him new clothes for him to use after he was cleaned up.

“I have sacrificed one of the trousers from my stock for sale so that Mbugua can also look presentable,” said George Mburu.

Convinced that they were set for the job, after buying him the clothes, they led him to River Kiruche where he was to take the bath. They carried along with them washing powder and sacks which they would use to scrub him. They also had a razor blade to shave his hair. His old clothes, which were too dirty to be washed, were burnt to make sure that he never wore them again.

After the forcefully initiated bath, he vowed never to shame his counterparts again, saying he would ensure that he took a shower daily..

“These people are the ones who carry our goods to the market and should they continue being dirty, we shall stop giving them jobs since that’s very unhygienic,” Mary Gathoni, a banana seller said.

The handcart operators promised to track down the others so that they too could be bathed.
