Head teachers in Kiambu County have been warned against conducting holiday tuition as schools close for the second term holidays.
Speaking on Monday, Kiambu Sub-County Director of Education Harrison Muriuki said that his department on Friday released a circular to all heads of schools reminding them of the ban on holiday tuition.
Muriuki stressed that no learner shall be subjected to holiday tuition, adding that anyone who contravenes the directive commits an offence and is liable to a fine of up to Sh100,000 or imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year or both.
“Reports reaching our offices across the Sub-County indicate that plans were underway in some of the schools to flout the ban,” he revealed.
Harrison further cautioned parents against making any payments for tuition and advised any head teachers who have already made collections to refund the parents.
He urged parents to seize the opportunity of spending time with their children to instill moral values and discipline in them.
