Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma says that good investments in health will spur the growth of the sector.

Ranguma, who opened a new critical care unit at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, on Friday said the health sector remains top in his priority.

He called upon the locals to seek medical services whenever they feel sick.

The governor said waiting for so long before seeking medical treatment will lead to many deaths.

“Many people take illness for granted. Seek medical attention that moment you feel unwell because if you choose to wait you will use a lot of resources to treat yourself,” he warned.

He said he will ensure that health facilities are spread across the county to enable locals to access health care.

Ranguma said in every health facility there will be water and electricity to spur development.

He told the residents to register for National Health Insurance Fund cards to be able to access proper health care.

Ranguma said his government will make it mandatory for everyone who will be applying for loans from his government to have the NHIF card.

“We will soon roll out loans for women and youth. This will be a yardstick to offer these loans. Show me your NHIF card as part of the qualification for a loan,” he said.
