Public Service Vehicles along the Thika-Makongeni route have this morning been forced to use longer diversion routes after the weekend rains left the road they have been using impassable by any vehicle.

The road has been flooded by mud and stagnant water and the drivers have decried the time consuming routes that they are forced to use.

According Thika Travellers Sacco driver Andrew Kimata, the Kenyatta road which they have been using before to get to Makongeni and Kiganjo was closed down for rehabilitation four months ago and nothing big has been done so far.

“They closed the road four months ago and we have not seen anything big done on the road. Let them open Kenyatta road and we will sue the roure as it is rather that using an hour to get to Makongeni which is a 20 minutes distance,” he said.

He called for the county government to work with speed to deliver their promises of rehabilitating the roads in the area before the El Nino rains fall.

Sought for a comment, Kiambu county transport and roads executive Njeri Gatabaki in an exclusive interview said that the rains came before they completed the road renovation and added that it has proved hard for the contractor to continue with the road works as the rains fall.

She has vowed to ensure the work is done step by step to ease the congestion in the area saying that they are planing to open some parts of the road.
