Rongai residents in Nakuru have been advised to keep regular communication with the police to help eradicate lawlessness in the area.
Area OCPD Joseph Mwamburi says the police have adopted an open door policy that will ensure easier flow of information from the residents to the police and vice versa.
“Let’s not underestimate the power of communication, it has worked elsewhere, it will also work here,” he said.
According to Mwamburi, the police are ready to act on any security concern given to them by residents with confidentiality to ensure that those who give tip offs to security officers are not targeted by the implicated culprits.
“We are professionals who adhere to the rule of law, we cannot reveal our sources as this may lead to hatred amongst you. We would not expose you to any harm,” he assured.
The OCPD reiterated the need for cooperation between the police and residents saying that it was the only way to root out criminals by preventing a crime before it is committed.
“It’s only through your cooperation that criminal activities will be brought to an end because these people live amongst you, you know them but just don’t want to come out and report them,” he added.
He further revealed that a community-policing booth would be set up in Rongai town to help facilitate the free flow of information.
He was speaking during a baraza at the Rongai chief's office over the weekend that brought together security officials to discuss ways of improving security in the area.
The area has experienced an upsurge in crime recently.
