Herbal medical doctors in Eldoret town want the government to recognise them so that they can join hands with their colleagues in the conventional medicine in the fight against cancer.

According to Shadrack Kiptanui, a herbal doctor in the town, concerted efforts by the two groups could go a long way in providing a lasting solution to the cancer problem in the country.

"Cancer has affected so many people in this country and is now killing more people than HIV/Aids does," said Kiptanui.

Kiptanui added that there is a need for the government to license them so that they can provide alternative legal treatment to the cancer patients.

"A government policy or legislation that incorporates conventional and herbal medicine needs to be put in place so that we can all help in defeating this disease," Kiptanui said.

The herbalist advised the government to take immediate steps before cancer becomes a national disaster.

He was speaking in his Eldoret clinic on Friday where they had organised for free cancer screening.
