Hoteliers along the Nakuru – Nairobi highway have called on the police to intensify night patrols as the August holidays start.
The hoteliers say that security requirement is due to the number of people travelling at night lately.
According to the operators, security for their customers should be guaranteed by the county government owing to the huge sums of revenue they remit.
“Most Matatu Saccos have chosen to make double trips to and from Nairobi because of the number of passengers travelling up county for the august holidays. Ours is just to call for assurance from law enforcers that our customers will be safe,” James Munene, manager of Nakubreeze Travellers Inn noted.
Although Munene confirms that his facility has always prioritised security, he expressed doubts because of the numerous security concerns being reported in different parts of the country.
“Security has been an issue in our country for a long time, not that we have not played our part, we just want the police to help us facilitate on the measures already in place because their (police) presence is always an advantage,” he explained.
Kula Inn Resort proprietor Laura Midecha says that being public places hosting different people of varied intentions at different times of the night, increasing night patrol was paramount.
“We get between 700 and 1,000 clients every day past 10pm. Don’t you see this calls for upping our game,” she said.
She attributes the urge for security along the highway to the convenience, availability and affordability different eateries have offered travellers around the clock.
“Our customers trust us and are always sure to get what they want at any time while travelling,” she said.
The different eateries along the highway offer among other services; fast foods, quick shop facilities, curio shops, bars, and mini supermarkets.
Midecha expressed confidence saying that their businesses have attracted more investors in Nakuru other than creating hundreds of jobs.
