In Nakuru County which ranked second after Nairobi in the number of reported accidents this year alone, the vice has been fueled by private car owners who have developed a habit offering driving lessons on the major highway.

"For instance, the Nakuru-Naivasha highway reported double the number of accidents than any other highway across the country," noted Lee Kinyanjui, NTSA chairperson.

He further blames motorcycle operators for constantly flouting traffic rules which he says makes it unpleasant for other road users.

"The situation is too serious that a majority of road users especially female opting to use public means because of the inconvenience," he noted.

Nakuru reported 189 accidents from January to October according to records from the NTSA.
