Constance Okwiri was charged together with cousins Watson Akinyi and Mathew Achiego but they all denied the charges when they appeared before Kisumu chief magistrate Lucy Gitari.

Gitari remanded them in custody to June 23.

The prosecution told the court that on May 11 this year the trio hatched a plan to steal from Veronica Avegis' house in Milimani, Kisumu, where Okwiri was employed as a maid.

It is alleged that on the material day, Okwiri entered Avegis' bedroom and took the cash which she later handed over to her cousins.

After executing their plan, it is alleged, they then proceeded to Muhoroni.

Avegi reported the matter to police in Kisumu, and subsequent investigations led to the arrest of the two cousins, who reside in Kisumu.

The State alleged that Okwiri later handed herself over to the police and assisted in the recovery of some of the money.

The prosecution opposed the bail application as they were still investigating claims that the accused had threatened the complaint and if set free they might proceed to harm her.
