Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wa has promised to fight the rights and interests of people living with disabilities in the area, as a means of empowering them.

Speaking in Kikuyu Town on Wednesday, Ichung'wa said people living with disabilities have the same rights as other Kenyans and measures should be put in place to ensure they lived comfortably.

The lawmaker further said there was need for the national government to increase funds for the disabled in order to adequately address the issues facing them.

He called on people living with disabilities to apply for development funds and start businesses to improve their living standards.

“My appeal to you is to ensure you use the money wisely to help you improve your livelihoods,” he said.

The MP noted that some people living with disability have talents that need to be nurtured in a bid to improve their lives and the society's at large.

Ichungwa promised to ensure the policies put in place to champion for the interests of people living with disability in the area were fully implemented.
