The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has refuted media reports that he boycotted the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) determination announcement yesterday.

Boinnet explained that he was engaged elsewhere and the Commission chair, Johnston Kavuludi, released the information when he was still away.

He said he later came to the meeting when already the media had been briefed noting that he could not have boycotted the ceremony.

“I am one of the commissioners in the Commission, how can I boycott such a function. It is the media who were in a hurry and the chairman briefed them and they left,” he said.

Speaking on Friday to senior regular and administrative police officers drawn from Nyanza region at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu, Boinnet said he was alarmed by the reports and called for fair reporting.

“That newspaper that made such erroneous report should ensure that they report what is true,” he said.

Boinnet visited Kisumu city at a time security officers are grappling with insecurity challenges. He said as the IG, he was concerned about insecurity in Kisumu and across the country.

He noted that his office has explained to the officers that they must perform their duties to ensure security is guaranteed to the people of Kenya. He told the people of Kisumu that measures have been taken to clamp down on criminals terrorising locals.

Boinnet also unveiled two police posts in Kisumu, one in Nyalenda slums and Migosi estate before heading to Kakamega in Western region for a similar meeting.
