Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan has given a tough warning to the brewers and sellers of illicit brews in the county to close down immediately.
He has said that his office has received several reports that there are traders smuggling brews especially in the Eldoret food market. Commissioner Hassan has said that soon they will raid the market to get rid of the illicit brews and arrest the owners.
“Some of those kiosks in the market are being used for the wrong purpose. You meet people coming from them in the morning sweating and you wonder why because the temperatures are usually low. We will soon be there to deal with those people,” said Hassan.
Hassan has also given a stern warning to the bodaboda operators who he says that they are being used to transport the illicit brews from the neighbouring counties to Eldoret.
“I would like to tell the bodaboda people and long distance drivers to know that we are watching them because we know they are colluding with the dubious brewers to advance their selfish business interests. We will not allow the people to continue dying in this county,” Hassan added.
The commissioner who was speaking in Eldoret town yesterday has now asked anyone who want to start alcohol brewing business to visit their offices to get the required licensing.
