Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan has warned brewers and rogue bar operators against assaulting chiefs leading the crackdown on illicit brews in the county.

Speaking to journalists at Eldoret town on Thursday, Mohammed said several cases of chiefs being assaulted have been reported.

The county commissioner warned that stern action would be taken against individuals or groups engaging in such acts.

“Several cases of our chiefs and elders being assaulted or threatened by suspected illicit brewers have been reported and we are working on them,” he said.

Hassan told chiefs not to be intimated saying they are protected by the law. He said that  the war on illicit brews would only end when all illicit dens are destroyed and owners arrested.

On Wednesday, Chepsaita assistant chief Jahana Kisorio in Turbo, was attacked and injured by a mob during a raid on suspected brewing den at Kamara estate. The chief was hit on the leg by a blunt object by a mob in an early morning raid.
