Athi River Deputy County Commissioner Mr Kodeck Makori has warned brewers of illicit alcohol seek alternative sources of livelihoods.

Makori noted a number of such distillers had gone back to the trade thinking that the security agents had gotten tired with the crackdown against their businesses.

"Let those illicit distillers of condemned brews in Mavoko know that we shall not relent until they either surrender or move out of the sub county," said Makori.

Makori, who spoke to hivisasa in his office on Friday, said some of the brewers thought that the crackdown had stopped given that the timeline given by President Uhuru Kenyatta had expired.

"We are waiting for the culprits to gather strength and assemble their distilling apparatus before we strike again," said Makori.

He noted that the process of assembling brewing apparatus took the distillers long time and resources and, therefore, their destruction had great impact on the illicit traders since they incur great loses.

Makori said most of the culprits had known that security agents from Athi River were conducting crackdown on illicit liquor on a daily basis and therefore they took a break. He noted that others had invented ways of brewing liquor unnoticed as they played hide and seek games with the police.

He disclosed that the joint security force was preparing to hit the entire sub county hard so as to net all those who will be found brewing illicit liquor.

Makori called on the Judiciary to strengthen its systems so as to ensure that those taken to court were fined heavily.
