Students have been challenged to use the knowledge gained in class to transform society and solving problems in their midst.

Speaking in Eldoret town on Monday, Kisii University Vice Chancellor Prof John Akama challenged learning institutions to include religious courses in their programs' content to produce all rounded individuals.

“All public and Private Universities should also include spiritual and religious courses in the career programs pursued by students," he said.

Prof Akama attributed the increased consumption of alcohol, crime and unrests in learning institutions to lack of inclusion of behaviour change courses in curriculums.

"That explains why there is moral decay in the society and rampant corruption in our institutions," he added.

The VC added that learning institutions should link up with neighbouring communities and engage them in providing solutions to the problems such as use of drugs among, outbreak diseases and Causes and HIV/Aids.

“Kisii university has liaised with NACADA in offering courses in drugs and alcohol abuse to ensure that youth are knowledgeable of the dangers," he said

Akama revealed that the university was going to construct a rehabilitation center in the school adding that parents should continue monitoring their children to recognise onset of addiction.

"I urge parents to take care of their children so as to avoid them revealing such levels of overindulgence” he added.

He advised youths to be job creators by starting small business and practicing agribusiness to avoid relying on the government to create jobs for them.
