There is an outcry among Embakasi Estate residents in Athi River Town over increased insecurity posed by houses under construction in the region.

The residents who threatened to soon stage a demonstration against local investors who could not protect their upcoming buildings claimed criminals use some of the houses as their hide-outs.

Faith Mwende whos spoke over the issue on Wednesday said most of the houses did not have security guards to protect them at night.

"Construction is during the day time but at night they remain unattended to. This allows criminals to seek refuge in them as they plan to execute their criminal activities," said Mwende.

Samson Mainge, another resident, claimed majority of those who were using the structures under construction in the region were like ‘chokora’.

Mainge said such people engaged in collecting plastics and scrap metals from the neighbourhood including litter bins located within the estate which they sold to the dealers.

He said such people did not have their own homes.

They called on the region's security apparatus to intervene into the matter as local investors constructing houses or any other structures secure their property throughout the day and night in a bid of keeping the bandits away from the estate.
