The National Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision is set to roll out the Early Infant Male Circumcision (EIMC) across the country.

Speaking during the launching of the VMMC strategy at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu on Friday, lawmaker Paul Koinange said that it will ensure that boys grow into adulthood without a reduced risk of contracting HIV/Aids.

“This is why alongside the VMMC strategy we are also launching the manual for Early Infant Male Circumcision (EIMC). The EIMC will be offered in the selected health facilities as part of the package for care for infants and certainly other areas for the demand of VMMC,” said Koinange.

The Kiambaa MP said that HIV/Aids has come down with the prevalence from 13 percent in 2000 to 5.6 percent.

“This has been as result of strategic programmes and good partnership, funding from the global scene to the community health workers. Our common goal is to review the progress the VMMC program and the corporation of the implementation of programs in the next five years,” he said.

He said that VMMC is one of the HIV prevention evident interventions that is 60 percent effective.

“In 2008, researchers demonstrated that VMMC had a major impact according to the Kenya Aids Indicator Survey report 2007-2013,” said the representative of the chairperson Parliamentary Health Committee for Health.

Koinange urged Kenyans to go the registered health care centre that provide VMMC services.

“Kenya was the first county to implement the policy of VMMC and we have so far circumcised over 1 million males. The national coverage of male circumcision has risen significantly from 85 percent to 91 percent,” he said.
