Kisumu residents have been asked to inform their watchmen when going home late in the night to reduce crime incidents in residential areas.

Kisumu County Police Commander Joseph Limo said that several residents have been attacked while returning to their homes yet they have watchmen.

Limo says residents of Migosi area have Maasai guards while those in other parts of the town have sourced for watchmen individually.

The police boss also noted that some residents have also employed the services of private security companies.

Speaking during a police press briefing on Tuesday at the Central Police Headquarters in Kisumu, Limo said most residents fail to inform their watchmen and those offering security services to them whenever they would be going back home.www.tripadvisor.co.uk

"You need to inform those in charge of your security whenever you will be returning home late so that they can protect you from thugs who can attack you at your gate,"said Limo.

His sentiments were also echoed by Bedrock Security Services Operations Coordinator Charles Ogina who said it was upon residents to keep the security officers informed about the late night movements.

"Informing your watchman, lowers your risk of being attacked by thugs just when you reach home,"said Ogina.

Ogina spoke to HiviSasa at his office in Milimani, Kisumu.
