Nakuru Women representative Mary Mbugua has accused women of failing in their duties leading to moral decay in society.

Speaking at Crayfish Camp Resort Naivasha when she met over 50 women leaders of different groups from Molo and Gilgil sub-counties, Mbugua took issue with the modern woman saying that she had deserted her family at the expense of career and westernisation.

According to the MCA, nowadays, young people had been left to experiment critical issues on their own because mothers never have time for them.

“What is happening in society right now is sad and shameful, our women have refused to teach good morals to their children making them grow into unmanageable adults,” she said, adding that if the trend continues, the society was deemed to fail.

She called for a change of tack in the manner in which teenage girls were being handled to help minimise cases of teenage pregnancies and school dropouts.

“Young girls need guidance. As a mother, be friendly, talk to them, criticize them positively and you will always be able to detect mischief, malice and bad behaviour thus advising them appropriately,” she advised.

Mbugua urged women to prioritise their families because it was their responsibility to ensure that good morals are replicated in the society.

“You can imagine how the society would be like if our mothers failed to guide us correctly. Let’s not adopt too much of the Western culture and forget our very own traditional African way of doing things,” she said.

In the meeting, the women agreed to help promote girl-child education and women empowerment in their respective sub-counties.
