Thika West Sub-County adult and continuing education officer Francis Kariuki has called for the integration of information, communication and technology in the adult education curriculum.

“In this era of globalisation, ICT learning should be adopted at all levels of education including adult education to equip learners with necessary skills and knowledge that would give them a competitive edge in the job market,” Kariuki said.

The education officer who spoke on Monday in his office in Thika said the laptop project that the government intends to roll out in primary schools should also be replicated in adult education centers across the country so that learners can also keep up with their counterparts in the formal education sector.

The officer decried the low number of men enrolling in adult education centers in the area and encouraged uneducated adults to enroll for their own benefit.

“In an effort to attract more men, male only adult education centers have been initiated in this sub-county and therefore men should enroll in the same,” he said.

“Lack of staff and infrastructure have hampered adult education in this area; collaboration among education stakeholders to achieve quality adult education should be enhanced,” he added.

Kariuki cited the need to establish a collaborative network among all education stakeholders and means of solving adult education challenges.

He called on parents to enroll their children in schools noting that education was the only valuable investment they can give to their children.
