Movies have been proposed as a good teaching aid for the pupils in Kibera schools. The decision did not only come due to children’s passion for watching movies but for educational purposes.
Speaking during the head teachers' meeting at the CDF offices in D.C Kibera, Mrs. Leah Asego, the chairperson of the Kibera Constituency Development Office said pupils will use the exercise to learn more on importance of education.
The movie titled Malala was selected first for viewing. The story revolves around a Pakistan girl who advocates for the right to education access; it has a motivational theme that can inspire the pupils to embrace education.
"Some pupils think that going to school is a burden which is wrong. We need to remind them of the importance of being educated. If we choose to hold talks with them only it may not help. We have therefore chosen to take them to watch educational movies so that they can know what we are really talking about when we tell them about the importance of school,’ said Mrs. Asego.
The movie is set to be screened at Nakumatt Prestige cinema hall from November 1 to 22 of the same month. The exercise is meant to mobilise 10,000 pupils from different schools in Kibera to embrace education.
