The government has been asked to invest more in technical institutions to keep them at par with other institutions of higher learning.
This appeal has been made by the dean of students at the Eldoret Technical Training Institute (ETTI) Michael Opiyo during a talent show event in the school yesterday.
Opiyo has said that there are very many good students in the technical institutions and the government can benefit a lot from them if it can only invest on them.
“The government should look at the private colleges and see what they do there. Right now we have a bulk of very talented young people. I think private institutions should be treated the same way as public ones,” Opiyo said.
He also asked the trainers to set aside some time for the students to develop their talents.
“It is good to have students bring out what they have within them. When you allow them to put into practise what they have learnt or what they like doing, it helps them develop well,” said the dean.
The students were also pleased by the event.
“Today we are happy that as the ETTI family we have been given a chance to showcase our talents and many of us perhaps didn’t know what they are capable of doing,” said Gerald Mariga, a student.
The event is organised every year in the school with an aim of identifying and nurturing various talents.
