Mlolongo residents have accused investors in the housing sector of allowing tenants to occupy buildings which are under construction.
Speaking at a hotel in the town on Friday, the residents, through their spokesman John Okwemba said a number of investors in the town had defied set laws by carrying on with construction of houses already occupied by tenants.
“We are concerned since it has become a trend for investors in this town to continue with construction work in houses that already have tenants,” said Okwemba.
He further noted most of the structures were both commercial and residential storey buildings whose owners had at one time ran out of resources to complete constructions.
He said the construction work exposes the occupants to risks since building materials may fall on them causing injuries or deaths.
Okwemba also said that the noise and chemicals emitted during the construction process is also risky and harmful to the occupants’ health.
He reminded locals living in such structures to be wary of the risks adding that the structures may also collapse in the process.
He called on the government to investigate all houses under construction in Mlolongo and address the issue.
