A suspected thief was lynched on Tuesday evening by a mob in Manga area, Nyamira County.
The 35-year-old was frog marched from his hideout in a tea farm, beaten up and torched by a mob.
John Ombongi, the owner of the house where the suspect had allegedly attempted to steal said he had left for church to attend an evening service when his wife, Ebisiba informed him that someone was hiding under their bed.
The wife raised the alarm and residents came to her aid only for the suspect to overpower them and escape to a tea farm.
The deceased was not lucky since the mob flushed him out and lynched him for allegedly planning to steal from the house among other alleged recent thefts he is suspected to have take part in.
Area chief Obed Moruri condemned the incident saying it was illegal for the mob to take the law into their own hands saying they should have handed over the suspect to the authorities.
The chief later alerted police from Manga who took the body to Nyamira Hospital Mortuary.
Moruri added that the deceased was released from prison three years ago after serving a nine-year jail term.
He urged youths in the area to engage in income-generating activities and shun crime.
