Teachers from Itumbe location in Bobasi sub-county who sexually abuse female students have been put on notice that they will face legal action.
Area chief Henry Mirera warned such teachers that they will be reported to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for investigations, and if found culpable will be sacked and prosecuted for committing such offences.
Speaking at his office at Giasaiga Resource Centre during an International Rescue Committee (IRC)-sponsored Peace Initiative project for chiefs, their locational advisory councils and clan elders, Mirera declared that he will take the anti-GBV war to schools within his location to ensure all teachers preying on their students are held responsible.
The PIK project is funded by the USAID and implemented in KIsii County by IRC in partnership with AMJUTINE, a community-based organization dealing with GBV and human rights issues in the region.
“I am warning all teachers working within my location that if they will be caught sexually abusing their female learners, I will take immediate action and ensure their employer, the Teachers Service Commission, takes up the matter to ensure the affected school girls access justice and continue with their education successfully,” stated Mirera.
