Famers in Jamhuri have every reason to smile as their business has come to a peak during this rainy season.
Tree farmers in the area have now doubled the selling price of tree seedlings due to increased demand in the market.
Mbaoni Josiah a worker at a tree nursery at Jamhuri said before the rains started, they were selling the seedlings at Sh50 but due to increased demand, they are now going for not less than Sh100.
“There is a high demand for tree seedlings due to the rains. Many of our customers now want to plant trees during this rainy season. Now we have to increase the price because of ready demand,” he said.
Mama Peris who also works at the nursery said the customers have increased and therefore they have to open very early at 5am unlike the previous months where they used to open at 8am.
According to Mbaoni, they have made a profit of about Sh75,000 since mid September when customers started preparing for planting.
“During the dry season, it is hard to get customers but we rejoice when it rains because that is the time we get many customers,” he said
