Youth in Kiambu sub-county have been advised to form groups and join cooperative societies to enable them pool resources for development.
Ndumberi Ward MCA Ngugi Uiru said youth need to do away with the notion that cooperative societies are meant for the old saying the mentality was misleading.
The MCA was speaking on Sunday at the Anglican Church of Kenya in Ndumberi during the opening of a youth training organised by the church.
Approximately 250 youth are set to benefit from the training.
“Cooperative societies are not meant for old people only," Ngugi said. "The youth should embrace them in order to access funding easily. There are a lot funds set aside for youth but the same can only be accessed through groups or cooperatives."
Uiru refuted claims that his office was not allocating funds to cooperative societies and challenged the youth to form companies to enable them seize the 30 per cent government contracts.
He said the Kiambu County government has bought equipment for road construction and was ready to hire them to youth who win contracts n the county.
The MCA said the county government was sponsoring youth from different parts of the county to undertake different technical courses to equip them with skills to prepare them for employment.
“We are committed to use the resources we have in the county to ensure that the youth get empowered,” Uiru said.
