Juja town experienced an unusual power blackout for almost 30 hours that started on Friday and over the weekend which paralysed businesses and services in most of the areas of the town. The town had limited backup power supplies and only banks, several hotels, pubs and cyber cafes offered services without hitches of power failure since used petroleum generators. The most affected by the blackout were government offices since none had an alternative power supply despite the fact that over 90 per cent of the offices utilise computers. The officer in-charge of the Thika Power Plant which serves Thika east, Thika west, Juja and parts of Ruiru Sub-Counties Engineer Babu Basworkeni said that black blackout was caused by the replacement of posts holding a giant transformer in Juja town that required urgent attention. He apologised for the inconveniences caused to customers while the replacement were being done. He spoke after fixing the problem on Saturday in Juja town during a meeting with the public who had demanded to know what was happening.
