Speaking on Monday at the Give Hope Hall in Kabete, the chairlady of the "Mucii ni Mucii" women's group Martha Wambui, said the group had started numerous businesses that were doing well.

She said the group settled on helping the needy children in the community especially those who cannot afford to go to school because most women in the group were not able to educate their children before joining the group.

Wambui said some children in the area were not going to school as a result of lack of finances and majority of children in the area had their dreams shattered as their education lives have been cut short.

"We realise that some children lack the basic right to education hence end up struggling in the community yet we all know that they could be better people in the society," said Wambui.

She said some children had become street children and could later engage in criminal activities and become a menace to the community due to lack of education.

Wambui said they will start by sponsoring eight children and intend to sponsor more than 300 children in the area.

Scovia Wangeci, a member of the group said the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) which is always given by the government doesn't cater for all the children hence some end up quitting school.

Monica Muthoni, a resident, said the group had embarked on a good mission and their efforts would benefit the coming generation.

She said she had five children but only two were in school as she couldn't afford to pay school for the rest.
