Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has faulted Chiefs and local administrators in Gatundu following the death of four people after consumption of illicit brew.
Kabogo said that the leaders have been reluctant on their jobs thus the cause of such deaths.
According to the governor, the local administration does not take action despite the calls for everyone to fight the illicit brews in the area.
The governor added that his leadership will not sit and watch such people in leadership roles put the lives of Kiambu people into risk for their own benefit, he added that he has been informed on the ownership of the bars and brewing dens of illicit liquor.
The county boss who speaking on Friday from his Thika sub-county office noted that liquor companies should be investigated and sued as these deaths come just a month after NACADA Chairman John Mututho toured the area and approved the production of the liquor by the company.
“Mututho approved their request after inspection and it seems something changed after he left. They should be probed and prosecuted for causing the deaths, ” Kabogo said.
He has further directed the county alcoholic drinks board to visit the companies involved for inspection and revoke their permits immediately as they wait for a report from NACADA on the same.
The chiefs in the area have been accused of operating several pubs in the area in partnership with the police.
Kiambu liquor companies have refuted claims that they produced the killer brews saying that there are counterfeit drinks circulating in the area.
