Governor William Kabogo has bowed to pressure from a section of leaders in the county to shift the county’s headquarters from Thika to Kiambu Town.
The governor, speaking over the weekend in Thika, said that he has been waiting for the offices to be fully refurbished before he could move.
He called on those opposed to his leadership to focus on something else now that the headquarters topic is settled.
Kabogo accused his critics of faulting him for the delay in shifting to Kiambu, which is the gazetted county headquarters. He said that the county departments started shifting early this year after a series of demonstrations in Thika Town faulting the governor for failure to relocate.
According to the Kiambu Chief of Staff Eng Sammy Onyango, the county boss relocated on Thursday and the others remaining in Thika are expected to move in by the end of this week.
He said that the process has been slow due to the completion of some departmental offices first making the governor’s office the last to be completed.
Kabogo's rivals had given him an ultimatum till this month to relocate the headquarters or face impeachment.
The Kiambu leaders led by Senator Kimani Wamatangi and Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu have been in the forefront in pushing the governor to relocate the headquarters.
