Kiambu governor William Kabogo on Friday officially welcomed the new Kiambu County Commissioner Alex ole Nkoyo into the county.
The governor promised the new county commissioner that his government shall continually work with the National Government for the success of the county.
Nkoyo who paid the governor a courtesy call replaces Esther Maina who was transferred to Embu county.
Earlier on, Nkoyo reportedly said he had arrived at the Kiambu County headquarters to take over his new office but Maina had declined to hand over to him. Nkoyo claimed Maina gives flimsy excuses and was rarely in the office.
The new county commissioner was moved from Mandera County in a nationwide reshuffle that also included top police officers. Nkoyo was also facing stiff opposition from residents with several members of the Mandera County Assembly leading peaceful demonstrations calling for his removal.
The ward representatives said Nkoyo was unable to tackle the issue of insecurity, which has left many people dead in the county since last year.
