Kangundo police boss Wilson Wako has urged residents to embrace Nyumba Kumi initiative and help fight insecurity.
Addressing residents at Kangundo Trading Centre on Sunday, Wako said that security will improve if residents embrace the initiative and other community policing initiatives.
Wako said that criminals are allegedly roaming freely in the area, but residents are not willing to report them to security officials.
“The problem we have is that we fear the police. The police do eat people and are here to keep law and order,” he said.
The police boss urged the public to shun the negative perceptions they have against law enforcers and instead join hands with them in the fight against crime.
Wako said that many crimes take place in the area but are not reported to the police.
He said that his office has taken several steps towards creating a good working relationship with the public.
The police boss that campaigns will be launched soon to educate the public about Nyumba Kumi and other security strategies.
Wako asked local leaders including chiefs to sensitise the people on government directive especially on security.
He also asked local leaders to step up the war against crime in their localities saying that they will be held responsible for in surge of crime.
