Machakos County first lady Lilian Nganga has challenged Kangundo women to apply for government funds and invest in business.
Addressing women groups at Kangundo town on Thursday, Nganga said women can improve their living standards if they apply for government funds.
Nganga said the government has taken the initiative to launch programmes aimed at empowering women.
“Women have an opportunity to improve their lives if they take advantage of the government funds,” she said.
Nganga noted that though government funds are being dished out many women across Machakos are not applying for them.
She blamed the situation on lack of awareness and sensitisation campaigns.
“Majority of women across Machakos have no information about the existence of State funds,” she noted.
The first lady urged the Machakos Uwezo Fund committee to sensitise women about the funds.
She also urged the national government to increase allocations to women empowerment programmes.
The Machakos first lady said that many women across the country have benefited from empowerment programmes.
Nganga said that eradication of poverty will be boosted through development programmes.
The first lady also encouraged women to embrace table banking and develop a saving culture.
She said that table banking will see them access financial aid from the government and other institutions.
