Kiambu Kanu Chairman Sakina Karanja has asked Kenyans to unite in defending President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy President William Ruto against the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Speaking in Limuru, Sakina said Kanu as a party would defend DP Ruto who was leading the country ably with President Uhuru.
He said Kanu was not interested in the top seat until 2022, since the party would fully back the Jubilee Alliance duo in 2017.
“The ICC is applying new rules against our two leaders, that have never been used anywhere in a court. How does a witness refuse to appear in court and you use their prior recorded statement? What if they lied?” posed Sakina.
He added that the visit by President Barack Obama was an endorsement of the country as a great nation.
“We all know that President Obama cannot go to Sudan because of the unrest there, but he came here (Kenya) because the country is peaceful and the international community is confident about the leaders in the country,” said Karanja.
The Kanu leader urged Kenyans to unite and rally behind their leaders and shun the 'kangaroo' court that was changing tack, contrary to the rule of law.
Six people were taken to the ICC after the 2007/08 post-election violence. They were Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto, Joshua Sang, Francis Muthaura, Henry Kosgey and Hussein Ali.
So far, only DP Ruto and Sang' are appearing at the court since the case against the other four have been dismissed. Only Kenyatta's case is yet to be concluded among the four.
