A section of parents in Nyamira County have accused some politicians of taking advantage of the teachers strike and using it as a campaign tool.

According to Jerusa Momanyi a parent of three affected children by the ongoing teachers strike, there is no need for politicising the issue.

He said such politicians should instead team up with the government and find a lasting solution to the frequent teachers’ strikes in the country.

In an interview in Nyamira town on Friday last week, most parents said the strike needs to be handled with sobriety and not through accusations and counter accusations.

Jerusa termed the teachers’ demand as genuine, pointing out that she was in support of the teachers pay increase as they have suffered for many years.

She further called on the government to move with speed and negotiate with the teachers unions to solve the crisis, saying dialogue is the best option.

“Our children are suffering at home and the government is not giving a quick solution as we expected,” she lamented.

“We are calling on the government to negotiate with the Knut and Kuppet on the way forward instead of issuing statements on the pay,” she said.
