The vice chairperson Independent Policing and Oversight Authority Jedidah Ntoyai has urged Kenyans to report any mistreatment and harassment by the police to the authority.

Speaking during IPOA workshop in Eldoret town on Thursday, Ntoyai said that Kenyans have a right to be served well by the police and any infringement on their rights should be reported.

"As the independent policing authority we are mandated to ensure that the police do not infringe on the rights of those arrested. Also ensure that the police do not use force during demonstration, the police do their work professionally and we ensure that a case by the arrested person is done at a faster pace since justice delayed is justice denied," she said.

She added that the authority also investigates deaths and serious injuries caused by police action, investigate police conduct, conduct inspections at police premises among other duties.

"If you have any query on the above mentioned and you feel that the police have infringed on your rights, bring your complaint forward and we will ensure that you get justice. We are employed by the government to ensure that the rights of Kenyans are not tampered with," she added.

She reiterated that the main objective of IPOA is to build trust with the police through making them to be accountable to reduce impunity.
