Students from Kereri Girls in Kisii town will have a reason to smile after the Kenya Libraries chairman donated dozens of books that will be used for referencing purposes.

Speaking on Thursday during a camp meeting at Kisii Central church, Mr Sam Nyangeso, who also worked as the Kisii town mayor for a number of years, said the donation will increase competitiveness among schools after he pledged to make the same donations to schools that will excel.

He urged area teachers to work extra hard to expose children to exam confidence as a way of reducing repeated cases of exam cheating in the region.

“I have sent dozens of books for reference to Kereri since it had topped the region in 2014 exams. The same will be done annually to any school that excels. This will improve the competition. Teachers should also work hard and prepare our children adequately as a way of combating exam cheating,” he said.

Mr Nyangeso called for stern actions from Kenya National Examination Council and the Ministry of Education for schools that have been repeatedly convicted of exam cheating.

“For many years now, I have really been troubled that Gusii region is constantly found on the receiving end during national exams. The ministry and the exams council should come up with strict measures of combating the crime and this can be done,” he said.

Kereri Girls had topped the region with a mean grade of 9.9, which was slightly lower than 9.95 of St Charles Lwanga, Ichuni Girls that will also receive a similar donation soon.
